Procedure objectives
Botulinum toxin (commonly known as BOTOX) is an injectable compound that temporarily reduces or eliminates wrinkles. The most common areas of application are the forehead, glabella, and crow’s feet around the eyes.
Over time, other beneficial uses for BOTOX have been discovered, making it a very versatile product.
Indications
Wrinkles on the forehead, glabella, and crow’s feet
Reducing the vertical bands that form on the neck with age
Improving depressions in the chin region
Lifting the angle of the lips
- Improving symptoms of Bruxism and treating hypertrophy of the muscles that produce it (narrowing the face, providing a more oval-shaped face)
- Treating a gummy smile (when a large portion of the gums is visible when smiling)
General information
- Botulinum toxin is a purified substance derived from bacteria. The injection of BOTOX blocks the nerve signal in the muscle where it is placed. Without that signal, the muscle is unable to contract. This relaxation results in the temporary reduction or disappearance of wrinkles.
- The formation of wrinkles at rest is a multifactorial process, but it worsens with repeated contraction over the years. That’s why regular treatment with botulinum toxin starting in youth can delay the onset of facial wrinkles in adulthood.
- During the consultation, we evaluate you, take facial photographs and measurements, discuss the benefits you will obtain, and perform the treatment.
- We use prior anesthesia to minimize discomfort.
