Surgical goals
Our aim with breast lift surgery (mastopexy) is to restore the breasts to their original position on the chest and youthful shape. This is achieved by removing excess skin from the breast and repositioning the nipple-areolar complex at the level of the inframammary fold or slightly above it.
Breast lift surgery is often combined with tissue repositioning, known as the “auto breast augmentation” procedure, which fills the upper part of the breast, enhancing the cleavage area.
In cases where the patient’s tissues are not deemed sufficient to achieve the desired volume, it is recommended to consider the placement of breast implants.
Indications
The procedure is recommended for patients with breasts that appear deflated and sagging due to loss of volume. These conditions commonly occur following breastfeeding, significant weight loss, or other substantial changes in body weight. Patients with thin skin often experience these changes more frequently.
General information
- There are numerous techniques available to achieve breast lift, all of which involve the excision of varying amounts of excess skin from the breast depending on the severity of the case.
- It is incorrect to assume that sagging breasts can be exclusively treated with implant placement. While implant placement tends to lift the breasts slightly, in cases where the breasts are significantly drooping, if implant placement is not combined with a lifting technique, the effect will be short-lived. Moreover, the weight of the implant may stretch the tissues, exacerbating the condition.
- The decision to combine implant placement with lifting techniques depends on the amount of breast tissue present and the patient’s desires.
- In all cases, it is necessary to conduct an individual evaluation of each patient and provide personalized guidance to assess the best technique for each particular case.
